Kala Chana is a variation of the commonly found chickpea but it is dark brown in color and smaller in size. It is also known as Bengal gram.
It can be put into salads or made into a curry based dish. It is often consumed as a snack as well. Chana dal is produced by removing the outer layer of black chickpeas and then splitting the kernel. Chickpea flour called besan is used to make pancakes, which are a popular breakfast recipe in India. They are a great ingredient to add in salads, stews, and soups and Pakodas.
